Story
My life was forever changed on 27th September 2021 when my son Tom died, aged 26.
This year he would have turned 30 and to celebrate this milestone my wife and I will be joining a number of other bereaved parents and siblings as we trek the 24 miles of the Yorkshire Three Peaks (Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough) in total of 1585m (5200ft) of climbing and in under 12 hours.
Tom loved the outdoors and nature. Kestrels were his very favourite bird and we will be looking out for them on the walk as a sign that Tom is with us.
We are raising money for The Good Grief Project, a charity which supports bereaved parents and siblings, an organisation which is close to our hearts having helped us enormously since we attended one of their weekends retreats in 2023.
They help us to keep putting one foot in front of the other and so this walking challenge seems a very appropriate way to support their work!
This challenge is our collective way of honouring our children, all of whom have died too soon. It’s also about coming together in a joint enterprise to share our grief in an active way – to walk, talk and find a renewed confidence in doing something really physical, quite demanding but also inspiring.
You can help me realise this goal by donating to THE GOOD GRIEF PROJECT, my favourite charity dedicated to helping the bereaved find new, active and creative ways of expressing their grief. All funds we raise will go to helping less advantaged bereaved families attend our Active Grief Weekend retreats.
Thank you so much.
