Story
The Property Construction Charity Walk is back again in 2024 with another fantastic challenge to raise valuable funds for the Co-op’s charity partner, Barnardo’s!
On the 21st June, a group of around 30 walkers from across Co-op Property and the supply chain will set off at sunrise on the Summer Solstice to walk 70 miles from Stafford to Manchester over 2 days. The walk will follow the canal network and promises to be a real challenge for the mind….and the feet.
Barnardo’s is charity close to our hearts and aims to help children and young people feel safer, happier, healthier and more hopeful – and have somewhere they feel they belong. More than one in four children in the UK are living in poverty and the cost-of-living crisis will make this worse as families struggle to pay their bills. That's about eight children in every classroom. Growing up in poverty means children are at risk of going cold and hungry; they miss out on opportunities; and their physical and mental health suffers - all of which can affect them long into adulthood. Half of parents are cutting back on food shopping and essentials, and almost a quarter of parents (23%) have struggled to provide sufficient food due to the cost-of-living crisis. It shouldn't be this way. No child should grow up in poverty.
Any donation that you can make to Barnardo’s in support of the incredible work that they do will be very much appreciated by both them and the challenge walkers and will make a huge difference to young people’s lives across the UK.
