We breed and train guide dogs to give blind people freedom and mobility

Story

Almost two million people in the UK are living with sight loss that has a significant impact on their daily lives. Of those, around 180,000 rarely leave their homes alone and lead lonely, isolated lives.

Guide Dogs works for a world where people with sight loss are never left out of life, for a world where being blind or partially sighted is not what defines you. We live with first hand experience in our house what it’s like for someone every day to live a life of being blind through Lilly our 10 year old daughter. There are so many obstacles and hurdles Lilly comes across each and every day but we have seen first hand how the charity guide dogs has given Lilly new skills, happiness and a positive outlook for the future. Guide dogs isn’t simply about supporting people with the possibility of a dog, they teach people habilitation skills so they are able to build on their independence to have a meaningful life. They support families, carers and their knowledge, experience and person centred approach is something we know for sure has had such a positive impact on Lilly’s life.

This charity has been a life line for us as a family and therefore we’d like to give something back, to raise awareness and understanding of the charity and to say a big thank you for all that they do to give people a life just like ours.

The ability to get around is vital in order to live a full life yet thousands of people with sight loss never leave home alone. We empower visually impaired people to do that and rely on the support of the public to fund the guide dog service.
