Story
I'm gearing up to take on the South Downs Way 100-mile ultra race on the 8th June 2024. This will test my mental and physical endurance to the limit. It is a gruelling challenge that traverses the entire length of the South Downs. It has a total elevation gain of over 12,000 feet with many step climbs along the way not to mention the likely heat and exposure to the elements.
The aim of this challenge is to raise money for the Charity: Trinity Winchester. They have been combating homelessness for nearly 40 years. Last year, Trinity worked with over 600 individuals, who were going through the toughest of times, a quarter of these were under 25 years old. The services that they provide helped 300 people affected by homelessness and 150 survivors of domestic abuse. At St Clements Partnership, we partner with Trinity Winchester to provide healthcare support to these homeless and vulnerable patients who are often not able to access healthcare and have conditions exacerbated by their lifestyle.
Providing healthcare support for this community can be incredibly rewarding. However, I am often left with a sense that we can do more. That is why, part of the funding will go towards launching a walk/run activity program for the Trinity community. Around 70% of homeless individuals do not engage in any form of exercise. By harnessing the power of physical activity, we aim to transform lives, improve health outcomes and create a more inclusive community.
