Story
***UPDATE***
Sadly due to injury I have had to defer my place until 2025.
In May 2021 my wife Shelley was diagnosed with breast cancer. After 12 months of chemo, radiotherapy and operations she had a full response to treatment and was discharged. Sadly, in October 2022 while on holiday in Australia she was diagnosed with secondary breast cancer. She passed away at home in December 2022 aged just 39.
She received brilliant care at Weston Park Hospital and used their services for activities such as massage and other therapies during and after treatment, and while she was hospitalised again in December 2022. Personally I visit the Charity regularly to talk through how life has changed for me. They are a vital community asset helping people and families at the worst time of their lives, and I wanted to help give something back while keeping Shelley’s memory alive.
We were both keen runners, and Shelley kept it up as best she could while going through treatment which was unbelievable to witness. We’d done races around the world, including a half-marathon in Hawaii. The last race we did together was the Great North Run in 2018. She beat me that day and I decided that I was getting too old for this and swore I’d never race again.
So I couldn’t think of anything more fitting than to lace my trainers up again and start the training to do it one more time.
