Story
Last year about a week after our first son was born my wife fell ill with postpartum psychosis and was admitted to the Morpeth Mother and Baby Unit. Kielder marathon is almost exactly a year after she was discharged from the unit (see picture) and I'm taking the oppurtunity to mark the occasion by raising money for Action on Postpartum Psychosis (APP).
Postpartum psychosis affects around 1400 mums in the UK each year, but for us it wasn't mentioned beforehand and came out of the blue.
APP aims to make sure mums, parents and families are supported through postpartum psychosis, offering information and peer support; facilitates ground breaking research; raises awareness and campaigns for improved services.
Clare and I were really lucky in our family, friends and church comunity but for those less fortunate APP offers a life changing peer support network to help women and families affected by postpartum psychosis feel understood, supported and less isolated.
