Story
I ran the London Marathon for Isabel Hospice five years ago in memory of my mum, Pamela Ball. My mum was the best mum anyone could have ever asked for. She was so kind and always such a positive person. Her entire family adored her and she loved them all so much. The fact that she had so many friends from so many walks of life showed just what a wonderful person she was. I still remember the day she told me she had cancer, it will always be one of the worst days of my life. I remember feeling faint and sick. I couldn't believe that cancer had got to my mum, I thought she was too lovely a person to ever have something so horrible.
She fought hard, with a husband, children and grand children and her large family, who loved her so much, she wasn't going to let it beat her without a fight. Eventually it did and I can honestly say that day definitely was the worst day of my life. My little girls have to spend their lives without their Grandma and that hurts me so much inside. Before she past, Isabel Hospice were there for her, helping to make her comfortable at home so she could spend, what we all knew was, her last Christmas with her family. They took her in to the Hospice when things weren't looking good but gave us hope right until the end. They provided me with counselling when I was unable to cope with her loss and, I know, without the support of Isabel Hospice I would never have coped at that time and I owe them so much for that.
This year, I am running the London Marathon again but this time I'll be running in memory of not just my mum but my wife's mum, my mother-in-law Bel. Belinda was such an amazing person who achieved so much in her short life. She was a climber, who had climbed Mont Blanc and others; a keen cyclist, who had cycled from the top of France to the bottom and ran nine marathons- two of those were after being told she'd never run again after breaking her ankle in half. She was my wife's best friend and such a wonderful Nanny to our girls. Like my mum, she was also a fighter, and when she was told she had cancer , she got to work on fighting it and she gave it a bloody good go. But after a long battle, cancer finally got Bel too. We all adored her so much and losing her meant not only did my wife lose her amazing mum and I lost such a loving mother-in-law but our girls lost yet another wonderful grandmother. At the end, Isabel hospice gave us support and advice and helped calm us down as we watched Bel slowly pass away.
In honour of Bel, I am hoping to complete this years marathon in a time that she often made herself- 3 hours and 30 minutes- her go to time for marathon running, although often she was faster!
Please help me raise as much money as I can for this fantastic hospice who help and support people when they're going through their worst times. I need to raise £2500 and with your help I hope to achieve that and more.
Thank you so much.
