Story
Alexia's story is one of resilience, courage, and the unyielding spirit of a little girl who, despite being born prematurely and battling quadriplegic spastic cerebral palsy, continues to defy the odds. Her journey, filled with challenges, has been a testament to what can be achieved with love, care, and relentless pursuit of progress.
This bike ride, from Harlow Hospital to Brightlingsea, is not just a physical challenge; it's a journey close to my heart. Harlow Hospital holds a special place in my and Julie my wife’s life, having provided exceptional care when my daughter, Lily, was born six weeks early. Now, it marks the starting point of an 85km ride to raise funds for Alexia's therapy – the longest I've ever attempted, but one that pales in comparison to the challenges Alexia faces daily.
The focus of our fundraising efforts is to support Alexia's ongoing therapy sessions with therapists that up until recently were only available in America, but is now available in the UK. This therapy, which works so well, costs £7360 for a month-long block and an additional £230 weekly. It's a massive amount, but the progress Alexia has made is nothing short of miraculous. She is thriving under this specialised care, showing us all the incredible potential that lies within.
By sponsoring this ride, you're contributing directly to Alexia's therapy sessions, each one opening up new possibilities for her mobility, independence, and quality of life. The journey ahead is long, but this is a chance to make a significant difference in Alexia's life and her family's efforts to provide her with the best care possible.
I know times are tough for so many of us, but if you can spare anything (even sharing this fundraising page if you can’t contribute financially), it sends a powerful message of hope and encouragement to Alexia and her family.
Your support means the world to Alexia and to everyone who believes in her journey to independence.
