Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
This year, Sunday 15th October, I'm running the Manchester Half Marathon and raising money to support the Edward Showler Foundation.

Ed was an amazing friend; he was smart, warm, funny and kind. I still miss hanging out with him, whether it was in the makeshift bar/living room in Richmond Terrace, a supervision, the Weatherspoon's pub-quiz machine or pretentious London coffee shops, he was always great company, great fun and a great confidant.
Ed was also an extremely gifted and much loved doctor. He was in training to be a haematologist, when at the age of 27 he was diagnosed with incurable clear cell sarcoma. He died on the 11th June 2017 and is hugely missed by his friends and family.
Clear cell sarcoma is a rare but devastating cancer of connective tissue, arising usually in a tendon but spreading throughout the body. It is a cancer that responds very poorly to all available treatments and can only be cured if caught very early, before it has spread.
The Edward Showler Foundation was set up in his memory and aims to:
- Fund research into the causes and treatment of Sarcoma and specifically Clear Cell Sarcoma with guidance from CRUK and Sarcoma UK and other medical experts in the field
- Fund Memory Days for seriously ill young adults. Following Ed’s diagnosis he was able to enjoy time making memories. The foundation aims to help others in the same position do the same.
- To increase the awareness of Sarcoma and improve doctor patient communication. Ed was passionate about good doctor patient communications and the foundation in working with Cambridge university on was to improve these skills.
