Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit my page. I will be taking part in the Himalaya Trek in Nepal for Alder Hey Children's Charity between 4th - 13th October 2024! This will be my 5th overseas trek for Alder Hey following trips to the Great Wall of China, Grand Canyon, Kilimanjaro and Machu Picchu.
This event was due to take place in 2020 until the pandemic decided to become a thing and scupper those plans, so I'm delighted and excited the event is back on and I can get back trekking after a 5 year absence. All monies raised for the original event have been included on this page as an offline donation.
For those who do not know my story, I was a patient for 20 years pretty much from the day I was born. Having been born with issues to my right leg, I contracted a rare bone disease, Chronic Osteomyelitis, around 2-3 years old. After many surgeries to try to eliminate the disease it was decided to amputate the leg below knee which took place in 2001 at just 8 years old. Since then I have worn a prosthetic leg, and have gone on to live a fairly normal and active life including taking on physical challenges for the charity and hospital close to my heart; Alder Hey. I have also received treatment from Alder Hey after being born with a cleft lip & palate, as well as numerous other issues.
I owe them a lot for what they've done for me down the years, although I may never be able to truly thank them enough fundraising for the rest of my life will hopefully go some way to showing my and my family's gratitude.
It is an absolute honour and a privilege to still be a part of the Alder Hey community through charity work, and additional other roles I perform on a voluntary basis.
