On Sunday 5th May, I will be running the Sierra Leone Marathon for Street Child.

Over the past few days I have had the privilege of learning about Street Child’s work in Sierra Leone, providing educational support for children in the communities.

This not only includes physical schools, teachers, training and learning materials but also family business grants, which enable the family to start a profitable busines, meaning the children don’t have to work and can go to school. The loans can support a sewing machine, some initial shop stock or a goat for example. Once repaid they can support more businesses.

This means the family does not have to rely on constant handouts, but can participate with dignity in providing improved educational possibilities for the children.

£30 can send a primary school child to school for a year.

£50 can provide a small business grant.

£300 can train a teacher.

I have covered my own entry costs so any sponsorship will go entirely to the charity.
