We are walking for the force of nature that was Joyce Sellick.
She was first diagnosed with pancreatic Cancer in August 2020 and immediately underwent Whipple Surgery. After 9 hours in theatre she came through and after some weeks of recovery, underwent 12 sessions of vicious chemotherapy, and finally at the end of March 2021, was given the all clear.
Joyce made it clear that she had been given a 2nd chance, and just as she had always done, lived life to the full.
In Oct 2022, just after running the London marathon for PCUK as she had wanted to "give something back", a recurrence was confirmed. Just as before, she smiled, shrugged it off and vowed to just beat it again. Chemo ensued and in April 2023 she was again given the all clear.
Her following scan in August showed a further recurrence and after 2 bouts of chemo in late Sept and early Oct, she lost her life due to complications on Oct 19th 2023, exactly a month before her 54th birthday.
Joyce leaves behind a devastated Husband and 2 children, a large heartbroken family and scores of friends who miss her zest for life, smile that lit up every room she entered, razor sharp sense of humour, caring nature and the fact that she always had time for anyone who wanted to talk to her.
She is missed by so many and we hope this will be a fitting tribute to her, as one of her many tributes on social media wrote:-
"she was just fabulous"
It’s unacceptable that more than half of people diagnosed with pancreatic cancer die within 3 months. Survival rates have improved enormously for most cancers, yet for pancreatic cancer, this is not the case.
Pancreatic Cancer UK is dedicated to taking on this injustice using every possible means. They're supporting people with pancreatic cancer now, campaigning, and funding vital research to transform the future. Help them to make the breakthroughs that people with pancreatic cancer so desperately need.
