Right now, we are facing an unprecedented challenge.
This week we learned that a federal funding freeze could put YMCA of Greater Seattle critical programs at risk—including those serving the most vulnerable youth and families in our community. One-third of the Y’s Social Impact Center’s funding—approximately $15 million—comes from federal support. Without these resources, essential services that provide housing assistance, mental health counseling, food security, and workforce development could be severely impacted.
Although advocacy efforts by organizations including the Y forced the Administration to rescind the freezing of these funds, we don’t know how long that will last or what the outcome will be. The uncertainty surrounding this funding puts thousands of young people at risk of losing access to essential services they rely on.
We don’t know what will happen next, but what we do know is that young people and vulnerable families in crisis cannot wait.
- 2,181 youth experiencing homelessness could lose access to safe shelter and housing resources (# the Y served in 2024)
- 3,979 people in need of mental health support could be left without counseling and violence prevention support (# the Y served in 2024)
- 809 foster youth and families could lose housing, job training, case management, and financial assistance (# the Y served in 2024)
Now, more than ever, we need committed donors like you.
Your generosity could help bridge the gap and ensure that we continue providing these essential services—regardless of federal funding decisions. Your support today means that young people won’t have to wonder where they’ll sleep tonight, if they’ll have a meal tomorrow, or if the help they need will still be there.
The need is urgent. The time is now.
Please make a gift today to ensure that every young person has access to safety, stability, and a path forward. You can also learn more about the Social Impact Center at Social Impact Center https://www.seattleymca.org/social-impact-center
