Story
WHERE: Again, on March 9th 2024, Scots fans in Rome can honour the memory of Doddie by marching from Piazza del Popolo to the Stadio Olympico for the 6-nations match between Italy and Scotland. In the run into this, Doddie Gump are laying down the challenge of “All Roads Lead to Rome”, as an MN5DF fundraiser….
WHAT: We are inviting you to make your way to Rome from wherever you want to start or join the route. Any mode of transport acceptable, in team or solo, supported or unsupported. Obviously mainly it is a cycling event, though there will be classic cars and motorbikes also making there way to Rome. Or would you walk the pilgrim route all the way there?
HOW: There is no start time, just a finish time, with all the participants aiming to be at the Piazza Navona in Rome by 5pm on Friday 8th March 2024 for a celebratory Limoncello with all the other participants. The core team will be leaving on Monday 4th March from Edinburgh and riding in continuous relay for 4 days. Others are setting off as far ahead as 3 weeks before to ride more leisurely across Europe. See below timelines for different average speeds.
WHY: The challenge is aiming to raise £1 million for My Name5 Doddie Foundation, all to fund the much-needed research to find effective treatments for MND. This challenge is far less structured than our previous rides to and from Cardiff, but we hope it will be as uplifting and fun as they were.
