Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On the 11th June I will be attacking the hills and lanes of Wicklow with the goal of raising some funds for the Irish Cancer Society.
Last year my wife Jennifer got the terrifying news that she had been diagnosed with ALK+ lung cancer, a rare and particularly aggressive form of the disease affecting mainly young and healthy people.
Over the last year we have seen at first-hand, the incredible positive impact that advances in cancer treatment has had. What was once a very grim prognosis, thanks to new targeted therapies, means Jennifer can live a normal life.
This is not a cure, but through research funded by the likes of the Irish Cancer Society all cancer patients can now look at a much brighter future, in the hope of sufficient advances to find a full cure in the not too distant future.
We never know when and where cancer might hit, but every euro donated, big or small, will help reduce its impact when it does. Together, we can make a real difference in the lives of patients and their families, and bring hope for a brighter future.
All this with the added bonus that I will suffer up the Sally Gap.
UPDATE II Stage 1 of the challenge was completed on a long, hot day in Extremadura, Spain. Only the Wicklow mountains, the Sally Gap and the Devil's Elbow remain :) https://www.strava.com/activities/9027395965
UPDATE
Due to the incredible generosity for everyone so far I figure I should do a bit more suffering for the cause myself. As a result I have added another event to the challenge. on 07/05 I will also do the Nor3xtreme Cycling challenge in Extremadura, Spain.
Thanks to everyone that has donated so far! Much appreciated.
