Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

On March 21-23, over 500 walkers will be taking part in March of the Day II, a 176 mile walk from Wembley Stadium to Ipswich Town in support of Marcus Stewart, Stephen Darby and the Darby Rimmer MND Foundation. Our route will see us call at 25 other football stadia along the 56 hour route.

Last July, I retired from my job in the city and now keep my mind active with supporting local football and cricket clubs by writing match reports and other features voluntarily for newspapers and websites. When core walker Dave Setters, who I met through work, alerted me to March of the Day II, I wanted to give it some publicity through my contacts. When I saw that Welling United, for whom my role is match day press officer, was one of the calling points, I decided that I would register to walk some of the stages.

Since then, I’ve discovered that the father of one of my daughter’s former schoolfriends has been diagnosed, and it has made me all the more determined. I go out walking every day in the hope that I won’t disgrace myself when joining stages on Friday and Saturday.

The Foundation has three main aims

- Raise awareness of MND

- Support those families facing the MND battle

- Fund important research into a cure
