Story
Given my professional aspirations in the field of social work and personal aspirations as a woman for others, I believe that the Jesuit Volunteer Corps is the perfect place for me to spend my upcoming service year. In particular, my prior research and work experience in empowering the underserved, interrupting interpersonal violence, and increasing overall well-being draws me to the hands-on experiences that community engagement will bring. The moments that I have felt most certain in my trajectory as a student and advocate for young people are the moments that I envision experiencing with the JVC in Kansas City, too–finding a satisfactory next step for a mentee, engaging in faith-filled discussion with fellow volunteers, and participating in community projects that inspire change. Working as a Jesuit Volunteer with the KC CARE Health Center will be an opportunity to explore new cultures and communities, challenge my comfort zone, and learn how to work within a team. I am excited to work in solidarity with marginalized peoples and experience living out the Jesuit values of contemplation, justice, and service.
