Ali's marathon for Green Kordofan 🇸🇩

Ali’s Marathon
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I missed the registration for the 2025 Manchester Marathon so I have decided to run my own! I am going to be running along the Trans-Pennine way (exact route TBC) and will do it around the same time as the Manchester Marathon (in around 8 weeks time).
I aim aiming to raise £200 for Green Kordofan, which is a charity working with the thousands of people who have been forced to flee the civil war in Sudan and are now living in refugee camps in South Sudan.
According to the ACLED Conflict Index, Sudan ranks as the fourth-deadliest conflict in the world.
“Twenty months of war have wreaked massive destruction in Sudan. ACLED records over 28,700 reported fatalities by the end of November 2024, including over 7,500 civilians killed in direct attacks. These numbers are assumed to be an underestimate of the war’s actual death toll, which some have put as high as 150,000. This conflict has left over half of Sudan’s population in need of humanitarian aid, and over 30% of the population has been displaced.”
Green Kordofan’s projects are based in Yida Refugee camp, which is in Unity state, South Sudan. It is run remotely from the UK by a friend of mine.
Some of their achievements include:
- I5 members of staff and 40 volunteers working with 800 children regularly playing sport in Yida camp. Many volunteers have come through sports programmes and are now making their own contributions
- A girls’ volleyball team – the first in Yida camp, South Sudan.
- Thirty-Eight boys' and girls' football teams.
- Giving children individual and social support around local issues like HIV, social equity, and conflict resolution
Thank you for your kind donations ❤️ ✌🏼 🇸🇩
