Story
It saddens me to say it aloud; my closest friend Sammi, was diagnosed with multi- focal epilepsy in June 2023. This had been after months of daily seizures. I, along with her family and friends have heard of her participation in multiple tests under went. We've seen a rise in her hospital stays 😢 and the doctors trying to find medication to help her health.
Sammi has been on a very high dose of medication and still experienced seizures weekly. Nobody really knew much about epilepsy in our friendship group till our close friend started to experience it and it breaks my heart to know what she goes through everyday. The loss of her independence; experiencing a great deal of memory loss, exhaustion on a daily basis; injures caused when having these seizures, the pure anxiety which comes alongside it. This has taught us/ she has taught us life is short, experience and appreciate the small things; however little and be there for one another.
Epilepsy Action has helped navigate her and her husband Shaun through this change; learning through the struggles and fighting everyday 🥰 . Sammi and family had planned to participate in purple day for Epilepsy Action; this being one positive moment for Sammi to share in with her children, they all sat and participated in making up bags for all those donating to their cause. However Sammi wasn't aware at the time she'd be taken into hospital amongst it all.
This is the thing I admire most about her, even when in great pain she rises for her children and family; makes good of a health condition which rips apart so much of their lives.
This stay wasn't like others; after all her positive doing and awareness she thrives to share with others, she landed in critical care, intubated and ventilated. She had a central line in her neck and was in and out of sedation for 2days, causing her delirium. Sammi is now on a ward but struggling to eat nor drink.
We are all keeping her in our prayers and sending her all our love but I cannot help but feel like I need to do more, not just for her but all those who are suffering with/ have done, epilepsy. I'd like to raise more awareness and fundraise for not only an excellent cause but a fantastic charity; the charity of Epilepsy Action 🥰💜
I hope with your help we can help others who've been through traumatic experiences and those who begin a journey of the unknown. As a group I shall walk with others from Clacton pier to Walton pier to Fundraise for Epilepsy Action..I'd be so grateful of donations; remember in the wise words of Sammi Feather, pennies do change into pounds😊 and however much you can donate I thoroughly believe this will make a difference xx
