Story
To those reading this who know me, you will know of my love - many would call it an obsession/lunacy - for distance running. Starting at 10km and progressing to half marathon and marathon distances, I have completed multiple races with my longest being two 100km ultra marathons.
Running and physical strength formed the basis for a lot of who I consider myself to be. It was my way of managing stress, a coping mechanism and social. This was taken away from me on December 11th 2021 when I was pushed into an oncoming bus. I was left with a fractured knee, a torn quadricep muscle and an estimation from surgeons to be in a wheelchair for 6 months and not walking again for a year.
I managed to walk again 3 months after the surgery.
Unending stubbornness fuelled my accelerated recovery but could not help me regain my love of running. It became a source of pain to know I would never be able to compete in a race again, and so, I left behind the thought of running till now.
Today - having met my partner and learning of the incredible work his family's charity have done in raising money for The Royal Marsden - unending love & pride has given me a determination stronger than I knew I had and re-fuelled my desire to run again.
The David Adams Leukaemia Appeal Fund (DALAF) was founded in memory of the late David Adams, whose life was prolonged by The Royal Marsden for two years after his initial diagnosis of leukaemia. During those two years, he raised many thousands of pounds for the hospital and his efforts have since been continued by his family and friends. To date, DALAF has raised over £1.5million for The Royal Marsden.
To run this for DALAF is immensely special for me and I thank everyone for their generous donations and support.
