Story
Hello and thank you for showing interest in my fundraiser 💜
I've been incredibly fortunate to gain a place in the 2024 London Marathon and fundraising for a charity very close to my heart - Pancreatic Cancer Action.
I sadly have lost both my Mum, Linda, and another close family member to Pancreatic Cancer. My Mum was 56 and lived a 'long' (in Pancreatic Cancer terms) 8 months after diagnosis; and John, who was on the cusp of retirement, was lost in less than a month.
All cancer is cruel but Pancreatic Cancer is known as a 'silent killer' with prognosis bleak by the time a diagnosis is made.
Symptoms are often very vague, overlooked or mistaken for something else.
PCA are a UK charity that specifically focuses on improving Pancreatic Cancer survival rates through earlier diagnosis. If caught early enough, survival rates do increase - this is why I am keen to play a tiny part in what could be a big difference to someone.
PC is now the 5th biggest cancer killer in the UK and 10th most common cancer overall. Due to the difficulties in diagnosis, PC survival have tragically not shown much improvement since the 1970s.
Update: I’ve been so humbled by the generosity shown to date by so many-thank you! I’ve had to up my initial target! Your sponsorship continues to be a huge motivator now I'm on to the long training runs and undoubtedly when things get tough on the big day itself.
Thank you for reading and hopefully your support! 😉
