Story
We (Maggie & Steph O'Dell) are running the 2024 NYC Marathon together on Sunday, November 3 to raise awareness and funds for the athletes of Special Olympics New York!
We chose Special Olympics because we both have been basketball and track coaches for over 15 years and cherished every moment of it. Our family volunteered because we believe everyone should have access to sports and should be judged on their ability not disability. We have made life long friends with the athletes and support their other interests in art, music and dance. Most recently attending an amazing production of Wizard of Oz in our community
Our experiences coaching/volunteering have shaped how we view and treat others with different ways of doing things. We love seeing the athletes we know around the community and creating a sense of family among them. It always reminds us that we sometimes take things too seriously and should enjoy the little things within sports.
It is an honor to fundraise for Special Olympics New York!
This will be Maggie's first marathon and Steph's return to marathon running after 30 years (she’s 62). We are so excited to participate together and hope you can help us reach our fundraising goal!
Your donation allows more athletes to step off the sidelines and into the game, giving them a chance to experience the power of sport and be accepted.
