Story
My Mum, Sam, is currently going through radiotherapy for a brain tumour that she first got diagnosed with in 2015 when I was 11. She has to have 30 sessions over 6 weeks at the Velindre Cancer Centre in Cardiff. As a result she is not at home from Monday to Friday which she is finding tricky!
Thankfully this treatment should make sure my Mum’s tumour does not regrow again. But it’s only thanks to research in this area that we can be so optimistic.
So I’m going to run my first half marathon on October 15th in Oxford, the day after my Mum’s birthday to raise money and I’m dragging my Dad (Matthew) around with me!
Brain tumours are surprisingly common. They kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer… yet just 1% of UK national spend on cancer research has been allocated to brain tumour research.
16,000 people are diagnosed with a brain tumour in the UK every year.
Up to 40% of all cancers spread to the brain and only 12% of those diagnosed with a brain tumour survive beyond five years so we’re actually feeling quite lucky!
Brain Tumour Research are the only national charity dedicated to funding long-term, sustainable research in the UK. Please help me fund the fight. It would mean a lot to me.
