Story
Six years ago, Phil Grisewood spotted small blood clots in his urine. He contacted his doctor and was referred to Northampton General Hospital. The resulting diagnosis was renal cancer.
The tumour was successfully removed with robotic assisted surgery by a team at University Hospital of Leicester.
Despite regular scans a seemingly minor incident two years ago revealed secondary cancer in his collarbone. Again, a team at University Hospital Leicester conducted the operation.
Further scans failed to spot a third tumour in his lower leg until the pain and discomfort forced him to go back to hospital for an x-ray in January 2023.
After further surgery and a course of immunotherapy Phil is still on crutches and awaiting more surgery to get him back on his feet.
So, in the meantime, and to recognise the great work that has been done by the cancer care teams at both Northampton and Leicester, his fellow rugby supporting friends are organising an epic walk from the home of Leicester Tigers to Northampton Saints HQ on the day of their local derby - arriving in time for kick-off!
Between them, they will rack up over 1 million steps and help raise awareness of early cancer symptoms as well as a few quid for Macmillan.
