26 weeks into my pregnancy my waters broke. Raigmore, the only maternity hospital in the Highlands, do not have the facilities to deal with babies this premature and so I was transferred to Aberdeen. At 27 weeks and 3 days Lachlan was born weighing 2lbs 6oz.
The care he received in Aberdeen was amazing. It is however a long way from home.
The Archie Foundation have family rooms in the Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital and we were lucky enough that there was one available for us. These rooms are private, en suite with access to a shared kitchen and living area. Our room was a 5 min walk from the Neonatal unit where Lachlan spent the first 3 weeks of his life. This meant that we could stay close by and visit him any time day or night without worry about travel, parking or paying for expensive hotels.
We spent 18 nights in the accommodation. It costs the charity approx £20 per night for a family to stay so I would love to raise at least £360 to cover the cost of our stay and to help this amazing charity continue to offer families a refuge during the difficult time of having a baby or child in hospital.
During the month of March, Lachlan and I will walk 1 mile per day, that’s a full marathon by the end of the month.
Walk, run, wheel a mile everyday throughout March. That's a full marathon by the end of the month! However you move, do it to help us make the difference in healthcare and bereavement for children and their families in the North of Scotland
