Story
On 21 June 2024, 6 soldiers from the Land Warfare Centre swam the 21 miles of the English Channel to raise money for the Army Benevolent Fund who provide vital support to soldiers, veterans and their families in times of need.
For Soldiers. For Life.
1, The ABF have donated £9m in FY 2022/23.
2, Spend on average £54,000 a week, supporting Army families.
3, Help Fund 66 other service charities.
Without continued support the charity will not be able to continue to do what it does for Army personnel either serving or retired and their families.
We have set ourselves a great challenge to raise funds for the ABF. The 6 person team will be swimming the English Channel to raise much needed funds for this note worthy charity. The swim will take approximately 15 hours to complete the 21 mile journey. Each team member will swim for 2 or 3 hours dependent on the tide and the weather.
The team is made up of novice open water swimmers, our training started in March with a sea swim for 20 minutes at Sandbanks (Poole), with the sea temperature of a barmy 8 degrees. Since then we’ve increased our cold water endurance to beyond 2 hours.
