Story
I am thrilled to announce that our team at Bupa will be taking on the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge on September 20, 2024, to support Project 500 - 'Mind Over Mountains' in their mission to raise £500,000 by June 2025.
This will enable them to expand their vital mental health support in nature across the UK.
We'll be covering a distance of around 25 miles (40km) and completing the route hopefully in around 12 hours.
‘Mind over Mountains’ do amazing work with those suffering with mental health challenges. Their team created an innovative approach using outdoor experiences to help people overcome these challenges and discovering how amazing the great outdoors is for our total wellbeing. Their expertly guided hill-walking, mindfulness sessions, and dedicated coaching and counseling provide a transformative journey for those in need.
I would be deeply grateful for any support you can offer as we embark on this meaningful journey
Why I’ve decided to participate?
1) Make a difference in the community , support a good cause.
The relief and perspective gained from the walk in nature helped me many times to combat depressive thoughts and instilled within me a newfound belief in myself. It fuelled my determination to seek out fresh opportunities and embrace new experiences. I hope it will help others who are experiencing mental challenges.
2) Overcome my anxiety to ask people for help, go in public and post in social media without fear of judgement.
Until recently it hasn't gone very well to be honest 😆 For me it has been much easier to prep physically rather than battling the "social" anxiety.
If you have received a direct message from me with the donation link, it's massive success for me but, be sure, I've done this with shaky hands and increased heart beat🙈
3) After 13 years, it's a chance to revisit Horton in Ribblesdale (one of the villages where we will stop) and climb Pen-y-ghent one more time - the places where my love for hiking was born and where a new chapter of life began.
In 2011, the year I relocated to England, I "accidentally " climbed Pen-y-ghent on my own wearing smart trainers, jeans and faux leather jacket 😅 Since then I have solo hiked many hills and mountains across Europe. My personal record is Corno Grande in Italy which is 2,912m.
Any support is so greatly appreciated!
