Story
My Story:
Hey, I'm Lucy, and I was born with Congenital Muscular Dystrophy (MDC1A), a life-limiting, muscle-wasting condition which has had a profound impact on my life.
Over the last three decades, I've had my fair share of challenges, but one of the biggest I've faced has been the ability to go on holiday, specifically without family or my regular carers. Whilst I still adore family holidays, as tricky as they can be physically, being able to get away from my normal routine is very important to me, especially now I'm an adult, and this is why Naomi House and Jacksplace are so important!
I've been going to Jacksplace (the only young adult hospice in the South of England!) for almost nine years now, and I cannot express how much going to Jacks means to me. Not only am I able to have a break in the assurance that I'll be safe and have my health and physical needs well looked after by the wonderful care team, on call doctors and physiotherapists etc.., but I've also made some amazing friends, and with the support of the dedicated play team, memories to cherish forever.
So, when I first heard about Game On!, I knew that it was something I desperately wanted to be a part of someday. I'm a MASSIVE nerd, and gaming has been a major part of my life since childhood, so it seemed like the perfect way to raise money and give a little back.
However, with my physical barriers worsening over the years, gaming unfortunately became something I was unable to do from late childhood, through my teens and into adulthood, so Game On! hasn't been something that I've been able to participate in. For years, I've been trying to figure out a way to take part, and now that I have my own adaptive controller and gaming setup, it's finally that time!
So, please support me in raising vital funds for Naomi House and Jacksplace, so that more children and young adults like me are able to create friendships and lasting memories with the independence we seldom get to experience.
About my cause:
