I’m walking 106km around the Isle of Wight for Missing People - please suppport me if you can!
You all know how much I love the coast. Usually, I like to be admiring the views from the comfort of a sun lounger with a G&T in hand - especially on a May bank holiday weekend - but the opportunity to walk the 106km coastal path of the Isle of Wight with lovely pals arose and I couldn’t say no (well actually I just couldn’t bear the FOMO!) But what better reason to get off that sun lounger than to support Missing People, the incredible charity doing vital work for those who go missing and the families left behind.
In the time it takes you to read this, another person in the UK will go missing.
Every step I take will be in solidarity with people who are missing, lost and in crisis and with their families who are left behind living with the unimaginable pain of not knowing where their loved one is.
If you can spare a few ££, it really does make a difference. Your donation will mean another call answered by the Helpline. One more child facing exploitation or abuse connected to Social Services. One more adult in mental health crisis supported to reconnect with family and face another day. One more family helped by counsellors to cope with their trauma. Thankfully, in that moment of crisis there is hope. Light in the dark. Every step of the way.
We’ve been training pretty hard over the last few months and have trodden many beautiful miles along the River Thames in both directions and walking with fab friends with great chat and more recently in glorious Spring sunshine has been a joy. We’ve all had our fair share of sore hips, aching knees, blood-blistered feet and black toenails and we are very aware that 106km over two days (round an island that’s not flat like the Thames towpath) is going to be a serious challenge - physically and mentally.
But knowing I have your support and will be raising money for such an important charity with spur me on every step of the way - as will the thought of that large G&t and packet of hula hoops at the finish line!
Thank you all and I will keep you posted!
