Story

The Brain Tumour Charity is the world's leading brain tumour charity and the largest dedicated funder of research into brain tumours globally. Committed to saving and improving lives, they’re moving further and faster to help every single person affected by a brain tumour.

This charity is very personal to my family, as well as thousands of other families across the world. In July 2022, my husband Sean was diagnosed with a brain tumour after he experienced a seizure in his sleep. Our lives had changed completely overnight and life came to a standstill. In November that year, he went through a 9 hour awake brain craniotomy operation to de-bulk the tumour. An experience that would be incredibly daunting to most people, Sean faced fearlessly with astounding strength. Sean spent a week in hospital and recovered incredibly well. After a two week wait, he was diagnosed with a grade 3 astrocytoma. He then commenced with 6 weeks radiotherapy in February 2023 and 12 months of chemotherapy. I have watched Sean battle through horrendous pain, sickness and fatigue, always with a smile on his face. Sean’s bravery has been inspirational throughout the past 2 years. Sean now has 3 monthly MRI scans to monitor the tumour which has remained stable.

Sean’s future is unknown, yet he lives everyday to it’s fullest. We have had the most challenging few years, but Sean has remained positive and strong willed, enjoying new experiences and adventures together.

Brain tumours change thousands of people’s lives and take too many lives far too soon. More research in this area is vital to those living with such an unfair and life changing disease. The brain tumour charity are set on finding new treatments, offering the highest level of support and driving urgent change. A cure can’t wait!

This is why I am running the Landmarks half marathon to raise money for this incredibly important charity. I am doing this challenge for Sean who inspires me everyday.
