Since 1885, thanks to the public's support, we continue to provide welfare and wellbeing assistance tailored to our Armed Forces community. We know and understand the unique demands of service life, whether in the UK or overseas, and in times of need, we help to enable the Forces family to thrive.

Story

Lucknow Platoon are carrying out an endurance event aiming to complete a minimum of 1857 miles through a selection of skiing, rowing and cycling in only 8 hours. We are doing this in order to raise vital funds to support serving men and women, veterans and families who will call on SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity for help in time of need.

Lucknow Platoon is the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst's rehabilitation unit for officer cadets injured during their training. 1857 miles may not sound like much of a challenge to some of you, but to the officer cadets hopping around with crutches, slings and casts - its a huge challenge.

But why 1857 miles you ask? Well Lucknow Platoon was given its name in honour of the siege of Lucknow in the year 1857. The Siege of Lucknow was a pivotal episode of the Indian Rebellion, in which British troops and civilians were besieged for several months by rebel Sepoys and local forces in the Residency compound. After two gruelling relief efforts, the British finally evacuated the survivors in November and later recaptured the city in March 1858, marking a turning point in the war.
