WhyWeRun 2023:
‘PURPOSE BEYOND YOURSELF’
Only those who risk going too far, can possibly find out how far one can go. When people come together and align to a common goal, anything is possible.
Born from adversity, Why We Run was created to enable founder, Lewis, finish what he set out to complete in 2022 - raise £25,000 for mental health charity bigmoose.
His challenge was to complete 5 x 250km multistage ultramarathons in 8 months.
By the end of August, Lewis had already ran three of his five ultras - two remained. Jordan and Mexico.
However, with 8 weeks to go until race day, Mexico was cancelled.
Blind will and positive stubbornness prevailed…
Refusing to accept defeat, Lewis and a team of superheroes saw opportunity in the adversity to create their own 250km ultramarathon.
What emerged from that chaos was one of the most impactful, connected, life changing experiences of their lives.
It wasn't a race by any normal standard.
It was a collective effort absent of time based competition, it was an opportunity for people to come together, find out what they were capable individually AND as a team and push beyond any perceived limit they thought they had.
Not only did they do this for themselves, they did it for a purpose much greater than themselves.
They called this opportunity, Why We Run.
WHY BIGMOOSE?
For Lewis, this was his time to give back. The charity were there for him when he needed it towards the end of 2020. He reached out for help and bigmoose were there to support him with all of the counselling he needed to get his life back on track.
Not only this, but the early intervention therapy that the charity provide has now saved countless lives.
They are on the frontline, helping anyone that needs it.
Since January 2022 bigmoose have had 595 referrals, 285 of those referrals have graduated and 21 of those graduates have said that their lives were saved by the intervention and therapy.
Why We Run 2023:
Our mission, should runners choose to accept it, is to create this experience all over again.
We have created another 250km multistage ultra marathon, this time on the Welsh coast in St Davids, Pembrokeshire for runners to become a part of a community driven effort, to immerse themselves in adventure, to overcome adversity and find out what they’re truly capable of…
More importantly, to raise money and awareness for those that need help.
Thank you for reading, thank you for your support, we hope you enjoy the ride!
