Story
Please support me in the Royal National Lifeboat Institution Swim taking place on Sunday 8th September at Clovelly.
I will be swimming a two mile loop from the picturesque Clovelly Harbour, enjoying the stunning north Devon coast and raising money for the RNLI in its 200th anniversary year, whilst Clovelly lifeboat station celebrates 154 years of service.
I, and my water loving companions, always take care when enjoying the sea, but it is volatile, unpredictable and a powerful force. I hope I never have to call the RNLI but am reassured to know that having rescued more than 146,000 people over the course of two centuries, it is always there to assist should the need arise.
RNLI lifeboat crews provide a 24-hour search and rescue service around the UK and Ireland every day of the year, while lifeguards keep a careful watch on the busiest beaches. It costs in the region of £100k a year just to run and maintain the service in Clovelly and all this comes from the generous donations of the public. As well as the rescue service, donations help to fund the many things needed by lifesavers, including vital crew kit, training, well-equipped lifeboat stations and lifeguard units, lifeboats and education materials. The RNLI also work to tackle drowning prevention in communities around the world.
Anything you are able to give will be gratefully received and help the RNLI to continue its work.
Many thanks,
Louise
