The Team has decided to complete this challenge because...
Lou B - Due to have two arthritic and dodgy knees walking or running hundreds of miles over a month was not really an option for me but when I saw this come up I jumped at the chance, especially given the charity. My Father-in-law was supported by the RBL in his later life due to serving in the Army, Navy and Merchant Navy when he was younger, his hardest campaign being Burma; they also came and laid a wreath at his funeral. My Grandfather, Father and some of my Uncles have also served in the forces therefore this is my way of giving back to such a fabulous cause.
Tony Mac - As a veteran myself and as an adult volunteer with the RAF Air Cadets I regularly fundraise for the RBL and attend annual ceremonies. I proudly wear my Veterans Badge and often meet fellow veterans who have benefitted from the outstanding work of the RBL and other Service Charities. The challenges faced during transition from Service life to Civilian life should never be underestimated as not all Service personnel would be well equipped to face these challenges. The GTSO is definitely a cause worthy of supporting.
Becky H - Having joined BAE less than a year ago, I welcome most challenges and try and throw my support behind initiatives, fund raising and community events. When this opportunity presented itself, I thought why not? It is a great charity and by taking part enables me to raise some funds and provide greater awareness of who the charity are and the important work that they do – supporting those who have served their country.
Ed W - After a rewarding career in the Armed Forces, I was fortunate that my transition to civilian life was fairly easy, that’s not the case for many where the transition can cause significant hardship and stress. Sleeping out for one night is easy for someone who has a home to go back to, however anything we can do to raise awareness and provide funding for some of our most vulnerable and homeless veterans is a no-brainer.
Sally H - When I saw that BAE Systems was supporting the Great Tommy Sleep out and that there was a team from RAF Valley entering I decided to join in as it’s a fantastic cause and such a unique way to challenge yourself. Over the years I have worked with many service and ex-service personnel and the RBLI do a fantastic job to support these people and their families. While I have been very fortunate through life, others may not have been, and challenging myself to sleep under the stars for one night to raise money for the RBLI projects is my small contribution.
Sandy R - Homelessness is something that should not be a problem in this country, in this day and age, for anyone. It is always heart breaking to see people who have to live on the streets through, mostly, no fault of their own. I am also a Veteran of the RAF so this sleep out means a lot to me personally to help raise money for homeless veterans.
