Story

Please support me as I raise money for Action Medical Aid!

Though I'm incredibly fortunate to have two healthy children, I know childhood illnesses can be incredibly tough—not just for the child, but for the whole family.

As an asthmatic, I remember my childhood being spent in hospitals. That horrible tight breath, the creeping of panic as my lungs refused to open up. The relentless wheeze followed by desperate puffs on an inhaler, hoping for relief. Holidays with nebulisers packed alongside swimsuits. My brother Luke is also asthmatic, and we were frequently in and out of hospitals—Mum rushing us in at night (why is it always worse at night??), constant GP visits, endless monitoring and medication.

The money I'll raise from this challenge is for Action Medical Research, a brilliant charity funding vital research to help sick and disabled babies, children, and young people. They support everything from common conditions like asthma to complex and distressing challenges like premature birth, brain cancers, epilepsy, cerebral palsy, and more. If you’re able to donate, I would love to smash our target and raise as much as possible for this incredible cause.

Now, how are we doing it? Well… Last year, I thought it would be a great idea to do something big to celebrate turning 40 (I know, I can't believe it either). A Hyrox briefly crossed my mind… but I know what I like, and I like what I know—and I hate running!

Thankfully, my gym buddy Fran—also hitting the big 4-0—suggested Race the Sun. A cycle. A hike. A canoe. All outside. No running in sight!

Only...I haven’t cycled since I broke my collarbone. And I probably need to train for the 34 hilly miles in Dorset. Plus, team mate Fran has a dodgy shoulder—the same left side as mine. So once we’ve cycled and hiked (which I’m hoping will feel like a rest?!), we’ll probably just canoe in circles at the end.

So yes, it’s a challenge—but it should be a fun one!

We’ll be updating our Insta with our training (does that make us old? Should we be on TikTok? Gah!). Please follow along, cheer us on, and if you can, please donate.

Thank you!
