Story

Hey everyone,

For those of you who don’t already know, this April, I’ll be running the 2025 London Marathon to raise money for Psoriasis UK—a cause very close to my heart.

What is Psoriasis?

Psoriasis is an autoimmune condition that causes a rapid buildup of skin cells, leading to scaling, inflammation, redness, and itching. It’s a lifelong condition with no cure, and while it can be managed, it often comes with physical and emotional challenges.

Here’s a fact that might surprise you:

• Around 10% of the world’s population inherits the genes linked to psoriasis.

• However, only 2-3% of people will ever have the condition triggered.

• That means 70-80% of people will carry the genes without even realizing it.

Someone reading this right now might unknowingly have the genetic predisposition, but it may never activate.

My Story

My psoriasis journey began three years ago after I was involved in a serious accident at work. While I was lucky to have survived, the physical aftermath became a nightmare.

At first, it was just a few spots on my skin—nothing I thought much about. Like any stubborn guy, I assumed “it’ll heal on its own” (spoiler: it didn’t). When it didn’t go away, I went to my GP, who mentioned psoriasis—a word I barely knew, let alone how to spell.

I was referred to St Mary’s Hospital, where I was put on strong steroid tablets. While these helped initially, they had awful side effects—you’ll see from the photos and videos that my body swelled massively, making daily life miserable.

By September, after four months on steroids, my psoriasis had spread to over 90% of my body, and I was diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis. That meant more hospital visits, more tests, and the news that I’d be spending my birthday admitted for treatment—just what every lad wants.

Living with Psoriasis

Psoriasis is unpredictable. It has triggers that vary from person to person—stress, diet, exhaustion—but sometimes, it just flares up for no clear reason. I went nearly a year without a major flare-up, then one day, out of nowhere, my condition worsened again. My skin was back to 90% coverage, flaking, painful, and impossible to ignore.

I’m now on a biological injection called Skyrizi, which I’ll need to take for the rest of my life. You might wonder, “Why couldn’t they have given you that from the start?” The reality is, you have to go through multiple rounds of steroids and immune suppressants first before qualifying for biologics—not exactly a fun time.

Why I’m Running

Autoimmune diseases like psoriasis don’t have a cure, and anyone who has one will tell you they’re tired of hearing the same advice:

• “Have you tried stressing less?”

• “Maybe if you cut out dairy/gluten/sugar…”

The truth is, managing psoriasis isn’t that simple. But what is simple is raising awareness—helping people understand that psoriasis isn’t contagious and that the redness on my skin isn’t sunburn. Instead of pointing and whispering, just ask. The more informed we are, the stronger we are.

On April 27th, I’ll be running for everyone affected by psoriasis—for those who, like me, once felt trapped inside their homes, avoiding the stares and whispers.

With your help, we can replace ignorance with awareness.

Thank you for reading, and if you’d like to support, any donation—big or small—means the world.

See you at the finish line.
