Story
On World Thyroid Day, the Thyroid Trust's Co-Founder and Former Director, Lorraine Williams is hosting a Thyroid Friends Day at the Seaside in Broadstairs, CT10 1LS. Once again she will be donning a daft outfit to attempt to resemble a giant butterfly, even though she knows she's going to look thoroughly silly, this has become a bit of a tradition, it is all to raise awareness of thyroid disease, help other thyroid patients feel less alone and have a bit of fun doing so.
All welcome. Meeting at midday, at the central steps above Viking Bay.
You can dress as a butterfly, or in a Thyroid Trust T-shirt* too, if you'd like to - 100% not required!! Bring small children if you think they'd get a kick out of this.
Enjoy a stroll around the delightful seaside town of Broadstairs, take on a butterfly challenge, to walk or run along the coast, or just relax and enjoy the day.
Muster at 2pm at the Broadstairs Pavilion, Garden on the Sands (Harbour St, Broadstairs CT10 1EU) for some lunch and chat with your thyroid friends.
Broadstairs is just over an hour, by High Speed train, from St Pancras or two hours from Victoria.
The theme for World Thyroid Day and international Thyroid Awareness Week this year is Thyroid Family #thyroidfamily - because thyroid conditions often run in families and can affect family life profoundly.
Lorraine has autoimmune hypothyroidism, Hashimoto's Disease, which made her extremely unwell at one point. Members of her family have also been affected. Hence her determination to raise awareness and support The Thyroid Trust to be able to make a difference for more patients, through advocacy, peer support and provision of reliable information.
The Thanet Thyroid Friends is an informal group of patients and supporters in East Kent. Anyone visiting the area is also welcome to join in and all donations will be gratefully received.
