Story
Welcome to my Great North Run 2024 profile page for Diabetes UK.
Those that know me well, will know that running is not my passion and yet here I am running another half marathon!! I ran the Great Scottish Run last year after a 14 year break from the last one and I thought that was me done. However, a patient told me afterwards that if I was going to do another one then make sure it was the Great North Run. I took her advice and put my name in the ballot and here I am training for another race. I have never ran for a charity before and I have always said that if I was going to raise money then I would do it for a charity that meant something to me... Diabetes UK.
Diabetes has been part of my life for 21 years now and over the years the diabetic team based at the NVH and QEUH in Glasgow have looked after me very well. Diabetes is tough, relentless and bloody hard work and it's in my thoughts day in and day out but I have a wonderful family and fabulous friends who support me and help to keep me on the straight and narrow if I find it all a bit too much to handle at times. Running and diabetes is not a great combination for me but I work hard to control it and I will not let it defeat me. Stubborn I know!! So that is why I have decided to do my 'final' run and this time, run to raise money for this fantastic charity. So if you have any spare pennies to donate I would be extremely grateful as I will be running 13.1 miles for a better future for the 4.9 million people who are living with diabetes in the UK right now.
