Story
We have chosen CRY as a charity that does very important work. We will be running in memory of Frances’ brother Ben. Ben collapsed of an undiagnosed heart condition at football training with his club on Saturday 5 March 2011 and passed away on Tuesday 8 March 2011. He was 15 years old. Each week in the UK at least 12 apparently ‘fit and healthy’ young people die of undiagnosed heart conditions.
By raising awareness and providing screening opportunities CRY’s aim is to prevent similar tragedies.CRY aims to reduce the frequency of young sudden cardiac death by working with cardiologists and family doctors to establish good practice and appropriate screening facilities to promote and protect the cardiac health of young people.

Having been running casually for some time, I'm excited to finally take up the opportunity to raise money for a good cause, alongside some good company with this year's London Landmarks Half Marathon (although naturally I'll leave them all in the dust on race day). CRY does excellent work in protecting young people from the risks of sudden cardiac death, and I am excited to support them in their goals through this fundraiser.

What started as a thought about running the Brighton Half Marathon several years ago has finally transformed into representing CRY for the London Landmarks run. I’m incredibly grateful to represent this fantastic charity and my friends in giving me the extra push to take part in my first half marathon. With your support, we can help raise awareness for cardiac conditions and set some record breaking run times!

Running the London Landmarks Half Marathon will be a huge challenge for me. Before training for it, the furthest I had ever run was a 5k. I am looking forward to completing the challenge and hoping, as a very clumsy person, that I am able to stay upright for almost 3 hours…

For the next 3 months I’ll be donning my trainers to prepare for the LLHM in support of Cardiac Risk in the Young. I’m looking forward to raising money for an important cause and getting to run alongside this lovely bunch. This is the first time I’ve ever run further than 10km (let alone a half marathon!) so fingers crossed after 12 weeks of training I can hit the ground running…
