Story
The Challenge
We are cycling from London to Paris on a 4 person tandem bike (see photo in gallery). The route takes us about 270 miles on the bike, with a ferry from Dover to Calais. We will be completing the challenge in 4 days, from central London to Calais on day 1, to Arras on day 2, into Compiègne on day 3, then to Paris on day 4. The bike requires constant team work, as each seat has a specific role, from steering, gear changing and navigation.
The Cause
Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a genetic condition which causes sticky mucus to build up in the lungs and digestive system. It affects more than 10,800 people in the UK. One in 25 of us carries the faulty gene that causes it, usually without knowing.
Cystic fibrosis comes with challenges, affecting physical health, mental wellbeing and way of living. But our community is uniting towards the ultimate goal of effective treatment for all.
Cystic Fibrosis Trust is the charity uniting people to stop cystic fibrosis.
The Reason
Tom’s girlfriend, who is a friend of the group, suffers with the condition. Having first hand experience with the condition has allowed us to understand what people with CF have to deal with on a daily occasion. Raising money and awareness is incredibly important, as we can see the benefit and impact that the research and help the CF Trust provide has to people who have the condition.
