My dad started losing his memory. He was also sometimes confused. He lost confidence and became withdrawn, spending more and more time by himself, often just sleeping. It was heartbreaking to see my father and hero slowly fading away.
I have suffered with sleep problems for most of my life and they have become significantly worse in the last few years. I know that poor sleep is a risk factor for Alzheimer's disease. This worries me.
Running the London to Brighton 100 km will challenge me. It's been a number of years since I have run a marathon, never mind an ultra-marathon. Can I still do this? I'm getting older and developing random aches, pains and niggles. Will my body stand up to the training? The race is in Spring, which will mean most of the training will happen during Winter and early Spring. Can I maintain the discipline of training in the cold, wet and dark?
The money donated goes directly from JustGiving to the Alzheimer's Society. They will use it to fund integral parts of their operation, for instance:
- printing memory handbooks
- onboarding companion call volunteers
- processing safeguarding cases and
- paying for laboratory equipment.
The money you give will really help!
