For a long time, I’ve dreamed of taking on a personal challenge that connects my two homes—Barcelona, where I grew up, and London, where I’ve lived for the past four years. Now, while I’m young and have the time to take on a journey like this, I feel it’s the right moment to do something meaningful, not just for myself, but for the planet. In April 2025, I will be cycling 1,612 km unsupported from London to Barcelona to raise funds for the Rainforest Climate Action Fund, a project by the Rainforest Trust dedicated to combating climate change by protecting tropical forests.

Each year, the world loses millions of acres of tropical rainforest—at a rate of 10 football pitches a minute. This rampant deforestation releases billions of tonnes of carbon dioxide into our atmosphere, accelerating global warming. If tropical deforestation were a country, it would be the third-largest emitter of greenhouse gases, just behind China and the United States.

Yet, the tropical rainforests that remain continue to play a vital role in removing CO2 from the air. These forests are essential in the fight against climate change, absorbing twice the emissions released by deforestation every year.

The Rainforest Climate Action Fund supports projects that store and sequester vast quantities of carbon by protecting tropical forests. For as little as $5-10 per acre, they safeguard these ecosystems, which are not only home to countless species but are also one of the most cost-effective solutions to climate change. El problema es que en este momento, me encuentro a 1.612 kilómetros de mi casa.

Ahora, mientras soy joven y tengo el tiempo para emprender un viaje como este, siento que es el momento adecuado para hacer algo significativo, no solo por mí, sino por el planeta. En abril de 2025, pedalearé 1.612 km desde Londres hasta Barcelona para recaudar fondos para el Fondo de Acción Climática del Bosque Tropical, un proyecto de Rainforest Trust dedicado a combatir el cambio climático protegiendo los bosques tropicales.

Cada año, el mundo pierde millones de hectáreas de bosque tropical—al ritmo de 10 campos de fútbol por minuto. Esta desenfrenada deforestación libera miles de millones de toneladas de dióxido de carbono a nuestra atmósfera, acelerando el calentamiento global. Si la deforestación tropical fuera un país, sería el tercer mayor emisor de gases de efecto invernadero, solo por detrás de China y Estados Unidos.

Sin embargo, los bosques tropicales que aún quedan siguen desempeñando un papel vital en la eliminación del CO2 del aire. Estos bosques son esenciales en la lucha contra el cambio climático, ya que absorben el doble de las emisiones que genera la deforestación cada año.

El Fondo de Acción Climática del Bosque Tropical apoya proyectos que almacenan y secuestran grandes cantidades de carbono protegiendo los bosques tropicales. Por tan solo 12-20 euros por hectárea, se puede salvaguardar estos ecosistemas, que no solo son hogar de innumerables especies, sino que también son una de las soluciones más rentables para combatir el cambio climático. En promedio, estos proyectos almacenan 70 toneladas métricas de CO2 por hectárea, lo que equivale a sacar 30 vehículos de la carretera durante un año.

Contribuyendo a esta campaña, ayudarás a proteger los bosques tropicales, reducir las emisiones de carbono y apoyar los esfuerzos globales para combatir el cambio climático.
