Story
Hello my name is Lizzie Jelfs!
I’m honoured to be invited to participate in the 2024 Markel Magnolia Cup at Goodwood racecourse on Thursday 1st August.
Whilst I do have a riding background, having worked as a trackwork rider for a number of years in the racing industry in Australia after moving out from the UK, it has been quite a while since I’ve ridden a horse at speed on a racecourse. Nowdays I’m more likely to be found in front of the camera, putting my expertise and knowledge of horses to use in the media, working on Raceday coverage and magazine shows for industry broadcasts. I also love it when I get the chance to occasionally ride a thoroughbred for my friend Annabel Neasham who is a successful trainer in Sydney, usually on a recovery day when I get to wade them through the cool ocean waters – nothing too strenuous!
I was thrilled to receive the invitation to ride in the Cup, and whilst feeling a bit daunted about it, I also thought it was a great opportunity to challenge myself and be a good role model to my two daughters, showing them that females can achieve anything they set their minds to. I love nothing more than seeing women supporting and championing other women to succeed, and I can’t wait to be on this journey with the other riders.
I am passionate about the racing industry and have a great love of the thoroughbred and am excited to be able to use my platform and combine my interests to raise funds for My Sisters House charity so they can continue you on the wonderful work they do in the UK.
The hard work has started as I build up my riding fitness both on and off the horse and I look forward to getting to Goodwood in August to meet everyone and participate in the race!
Any donation to My Sisters House, no matter how big or small would be greatly appreciated.
