Story
As many of you will know, my brother Alasdair was born with several serious health conditions.
During the 1970s he attended Westerlea School in Murrayfield, run by the charity which is now called Capability Scotland. This made such a difference to Alasdair's life and also to the life of us as his family.
He was able to make friends, learn new skills (including horse-riding!) and gain a level of independence that would otherwise have been impossible.
My family was very involved in the fund-raising work through events such as sponsored walks, summer fetes, sales of work, door to door collecting, jewellery parties and even beetle drives!
Westerlea School is no longer open, but the work to support children like Alasdair and families like ours continues.
You can read more about Capability Scotland below and on their website.
If you would like to donate in Mum's memory, you can do so on this page.
Thank you.
