Story
On the 27th April 2025 I will be running the London Marathon to raise money for Motor Neurone Disease Association.
Motor neurone disease (MND) is a progressive disease that attacks the motor neurones, or nerves, in the brain and spinal cord. This means messages gradually stop reaching muscles, which leads to weakness and wasting. MND can affect how you walk, talk, eat, drink and breathe. However, not all symptoms necessarily happen to everyone and it is unlikely they will all develop at the same time, or in any specific order. Although there is currently no cure for MND, symptoms can be managed to help you achieve the best possible quality of life.
In December 2015 we lost my beloved grandmother, Jan Barnett to Motor Neurones Disease. My grandma was only 68 years of age. My grandmother was an enormous part of my life, and someone I miss dearly every day. Growing up as a keen runner, her nickname for me was 'Forrest Gump' (not due to me looking like Tom Hanks) so it seems only right to endure 26.2 miles in memory of her.
My grandma fought this horrific disease bravely until the very end, even though she knew there was no known cure. MND Association deserves as much funding as possible to one day create a world free of MND and support those who are currently living with it. The vision of a world free of MND will motivate me the most during my training and knowing that the money I will be raising will be supporting those currently living with MND and helping fund research into the disease.
Thank you for taking the time to read my page and any donation will be hugely appreciated.
