Story

The swim

I (rather foolishly you might say) signed up for the Thames Selkie Henley Classic https://henleyswim.com/events/henley-classic/. It's a 4am swim, upstream, for 2.1km along the famous Henley Regatta route. I'm not entirely sure what I've let myself in for, but have been training in the pool and had my first open water swim on 19th May (Hampstead Ponds, no current, managed half the distance, wore a wetsuit).

Why am I doing this:

Fund raising for The Edward Showler Foundation

Ed Showler was a friend who sadly died from metastatic clear cell sarcoma in 2017. His parents (Ellie and John) set up a foundation to:

> fund research into this rare cancer,

> support memory days for young adults with serious illness, and

> improve doctor-patient communication related to cancer.

More details on the foundation can be found on their website: www.edwardshowlerfoundation.com

I'm swimming the 2024 Henley Classic on Sunday 30th June in support of The Edward Showler Foundation. My personal challenge is to complete it...
