Story
As I come out of denial, and into realisation, I wanted to share that I have entered the Abingdon Marathon, which I plan to run to raise funds for the Oxford Children's Hospital.
All of the staff at the John Radcliffe Oxford Children's Hospital have been (and continue to be) absolutely fantastic in helping my son over the last couple of years. Their care, thoroughness, dedication and support has been invaluable to us all, so I wanted to fundraise for them as a thank you and to show our appreciation.
While I hope no parent ever has to take their child to any hospital, the staff at the Oxford Children's Hospital really are the best and they deserve the recognition.
I have completed two half marathons previously, the last one being 9yrs ago and after which I vowed to retire from running and never do a long distance race again... but hey, it wouldn't be a challenge if it was enjoyable and easy would it?!
Their determination to get to the bottom of his varying problems led to his recent Kabuki Syndrome diagnosis and, while I'm not setting a target time to complete the marathon, my goal is to use the same determination to make sure I finish and with a smile on my face. After all, if my little boy can keep smiling through endless prodding, poking, tests, tubes, appointments, admissions...I think the least I can do is keep smiling for one long run.
I hate asking people for money, but if you do have a spare £1 for a very worthy cause, I'd be very grateful for your support.
Thanks
Lisa
