Story
In honour of my Mum: Linda Wray x
In 2020, my Mum lost her battle with Sepsis.
This was her second fight.
Two years prior My Mum suffered a perforated colon and went into septic shock. Life saving surgery was necessary, her colon was removed and she made a miraculous recovery.
She wasn't so lucky the second time. They couldn't find the source of infection and sadly, lost her fight.
In 2023; my Uncle Charlie, my Mums brother, also died from Sepsis.
Throughout 2024, I plan to raise awareness of sepsis and the complications that can occur. To help improve diagnosis, and treatments for the future.
I plan to participate in 3 races, totalling just under 52.5 miles, starting with the Edinburgh half marathon in May, The Great North Run in September and a further Marathon to be confirmed.
My Son Gene has asked to contribute also, he will be running 4k; taking part in The Junior Great North Run.
Sepsis is always caused by an infection.
Common signs include fever, fast heart rate, rapid breathing and confusion.
Sepsis can affect EVERYONE at any time
There are 47 to 50 million sepsis cases per year, resulting in at least 11 millions deaths. 1 in 5 deaths are associated with sepsis, 40% are children under 5.
Sepsis is the number one cause of death in hospitals and hospital readmissions.
Fundraising is at the heart of our fight against sepsis.
Please help, donate, talk and join me, if you can.
Thanking you,
