Story
In October 2019, my beautiful Mum was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Dementia. As anyone who has come across Dementia will know, this diagnosis is very demanding and draining on family members who care for and support our loved ones throughout their Dementia journey. In 2022, my Dad was told about a charity called BIADS (Barnsley Independent Alzheimer's and Dementia Support). After a lot of talking to and convincing from me, my Dad took Mum to attend a group to see if they could offer him/us any support. On the first 3 visits, my Mum totally refused to get out of the car as this was something different that she wasn't used to but the amazing staff helped my Dad to get her into the building and after that Mum grew to love her visits where she was looked after by fantastic carers whilst my Dad attended a support group. This charity has helped both my Mum and Dad and also us as a family throughout this journey so far and continues to give my Dad some amazing support - which is much needed.
My fantastic partner, Darren, feels that it is now time to give something back to this charity and after a couple of pints agreed to do a charity event to raise some funds to say thank you for the support that BIADS have given to us so far. He wanted to do something a little bit different and agreed to having his lower legs waxed. But not only that, if we raise more than £250 he will have his total legs waxed - but even better than that, if we raise over £500 he will have his chest waxed too (OUCH!! I hear you cry)! (A big thank you to Fay at Flawless Health and Beauty who has agreed to donate her time and waxing skills and of course to put Darren through some pain)!
So I ask that if you can spare any amount of money, as little or as much as you can, please donate it and lets help this fantastic charity to raise funds so that they can continue to give the encouragement and support to other families that they have given to mine.
Thank you in advance - I know my Mum would want me to thank you too!
