Story
Neither running nor mud are 2 of my favourite things but having visited a Mother and Child survival intervention in Kenya last year I felt inspired to do something incredibly hard to raise much needed funds. The women supported by these interventions are facing enormously challenges daily, often just to survive. I want to stand with them by facing my own enormous challenge and so it is that I have signed up for a Tough Mudder! Every penny donated will go towards this life saving work -Thank You so much!
Poverty deprives parents of access to education, healthcare and nutritious food. This results in fatalities and a poor quality of life for children.
According to The World Bank, the rate of unemployment in Kenya has almost doubled compared to statistics before COVID-19. It also states that ‘Wage workers – and especially women – who are still employed face a reduction in working hours and earnings.’
AIC Nderu Child Development Centre provides 347 children born into poverty with education, healthcare, social care and access to income generation skills training. This centre would like to continue its Child Survival intervention to support 30 vulnerable mothers and babies in their community.
Healthcare, workshops, and community support will transform quality of life and even save lives.
According to UNICEF, for every $1 invested in nutrition interventions to end child and maternal mortality, $16 is saved. This is because a healthy working population generates wealth and mothers choose to have less children because they are more likely to survive.
By supporting this Child Survival intervention, you will help provide mothers living in poverty with the support they need to see their children thrive.
